Voice controlling your home will be the future.
If like me, you feel a bit of an idiot talking to your phone, you cringe saying “Hey siri” and hoping that no one can see you let alone hear you just trying to add a reminder.
Recently I walked into a friends house and had to chuckle as she argued with Amazons echo to turn the music off, it was almost like she was telling off a teenager playing music too loud, but what finally made me smile was after screaming “alexa turn music off” around 10 times, it finally listened and there was silence, and just like a stroppy teenager, it came back on 10 seconds later!
So something I have always considered as voice control seems to be becoming more popular, will this really take off? And I have to say…..Probably, but it’s got a long way to go. The issues I have is I have to admit once you start using iPhone’s Siri, it’s actually really useful, setting reminders while driving, or adding to diary entries, calling up directions etc, or when does a shop shut, it actually really starts to work, it really makes you feel like you have a personal secretary walking around with you, and apart from the odd misunderstanding, 9 times out of 10 it works.
Now from the early days of shouting at my BMW, “call Amy”, “calling Emma” and so nowadays the technology as usual is actually starting to work and with Google Home, Amazon Echo and Apple HomeKit, controlling your home with voice commands is starting to become a reality. Rako, the UK based wireless and wired lighting control system recently launched the brand new Rako IOT Cloud Gateway device extending their control to allow you to now talk to you home for lighting control, the only thing that confuses me, what do you do at night? i’m a late sleeper, I just can’t imagine bellowing “Alex lights off” without getting in to trouble!!
